The Life Along the Ridge exhibit at the Henderson County Heritage Museum explores the early days in the Dana, Tracy Grove and Upward communities.  The centerpiece exhibit is a moonshine still with information boards describing the moonshine process and discussing its place in local history.

The exhibit includes information on churches, schools, businesses, mills and  music with historic photographs.

Special highlights include:

  • the Ottaray Canning Co.
  • Ray Taylor and the Taylor Maids
  • photographer R.H. Scadin
  • Granny Doctors
  • Herb Medicines
  • Dana Fairs
  • Pottery Kilns
  • Henderson County Singing Convention
  • Apple Growing

Other features include a kiosk with a multimedia display of historic photographs and music and a display of a number of historical items.  There is also a life size display of “Big Jim” the world’s largest hog.

The exhibit is the result of the cooperation, efforts and contributions of more than two dozen members of the community.
